Is Leasing for You?

If you are interested in horses and would love to own one, but not ready to make the full commitment, leasing a horse maybe the perfect option to get the feel for what horse ownership may be like. Leasing can serve as a sort of “trial run” to determine if the time, finances and upkeep involved are really feasible.

Leases are designed to allow clients all of the benefits of horse ownership without the large financial responsibility. This presents the opportunity to develop a relationship and bond with a horse that is not normally possibly when taking lessons alone. Learn the responsibility of taking care of an animal, gain self-confidence by achieving your riding goals, and benefit from the physical conditioning of regular riding.

Advantages of Leasing a Horse

• Experience the joys and responsibilities of horse ownership without actually having to buy a horse.
• Provides a pet partnership granting riding privileges and one-on-one time.
• Do not have to buy your own tack.
• Do not have to pay board and upkeep expenses.
• Hone your riding skills before choosing a horse for purchase.
• Do not have to deal with certain liabilities.

You just need to love horses and have a desire to learn.

Stillwater Farms Share/Leasing Program:

A lessee must first take riding instructions from the facility to assure that horse and rider skills are properly matched. Rider must continue regular lessons until staff determines that the desired level of riding is achieved.

A share lease gives the lessee part-time access and partial responsibility for the animal’s care, and works well for those looking for extra bonding time. All necessary equipment is supplied including saddles, bridles, pads and etc. Clients may choose to have their own tack, however, any equipment not supplied by Stillwater Farms must be approved prior to use.

A share lease allows the rider 3 days/week of predetermined days. On those certain days, lessee can treat and interact with the horse as if it were his own as long as it is done responsibly and does not present any danger or health threats to either horse or rider. Share leased horses are not used for other lessons on your days.

On the other days, the owner may ride the horse himself or use the horse for other purposes as the owner determines.
